The Flush AVL totes SHOULD NOT be used for potable drinking water. They should only be used for non-potable water and are not safe for holding drinking water. They have not been sanitized and many of them are not made of food-grade materials.
IBC Tanks has a great list of ways to reuse totes including:
Rainwater Harvesting Systems: Rainwater harvesting is an eco-friendly and cost-effective way to collect and save water for various uses around your property. An old IBC tote can serve as an excellent rainwater collection tank, providing much more water capacity compared to rain barrels as long as the tote was not used for hazardous materials.
Composting Systems: Old IBC totes can be transformed into composting systems with various designs and setups available based on your needs and level of handiness. The large volume allows for a substantial amount of compost production, which is perfect for gardening enthusiasts.
Storage Units: An old IBC tote can be simply repurposed as a storage unit similar to a plastic bin or cardboard box. Whether it’s used for garden tools, sports equipment, firewood, or other items, a modified IBC tote or its cage provides a sturdy and spacious storage solution.
Greenhouse Irrigation Systems: For those with a green thumb, an IBC tote can be integrated into a greenhouse irrigation system, whether through drip irrigation, flood irrigation, sprayer irrigation, or fertigation.
